Weft Extensions
This is hair that comes on one long weft and can be cut to fit the head. There are several types of weft extensions from machine wefts to genius wefts to hand tied wefts. Weft can be sewn on to beads attached to your hair or they can be attached using micro beads via the “no sew beaded row” method.
-
Easy to match to your hair color by blending different wefts together -
Usually isn’t bulky (except for machine weft) -
Average move up is 6 weeks -
Generally a quick method
-
Sew in can cause hair breakage (I prefer no sew) -
Might be difficult to wear hair in a high ponytail
Individual Extensions
This hair comes in individual pieces that can be attached with keratin glue bonds, micro rings or nano beads.
-
Allows for styling flexibility -
Can be applied to specific areas
-
Glue can damage the hair (I prefer rings or beads) -
Requires a lot of time for installation and touch ups -
Can tangle badly if not well maintained
Tape-in Extensions
This hair comes on a thin piece of tape and is applied by sandwiching your hair between tapes.
-
Lies flat. -
Fairly quick to install
-
Tape can pull out hair -
Touch ups can be lengthy because tapes need to be removed and re-taped
Clip-in & Halo Extensions
These are for daily use. Clip ins are just that, you clip them into your hair. Halo extensions come as a weft with a thin piece of fishing line that goes over the top of your head, securing the weft (like a headband).
-
Easy to install yourself
-
Limited hairstyles -
May slip or fall off
Extensions can be a great service for those who feel like they don’t have enough hair or would like length. Talk to your stylist about extension options and what they think is right for your hair.
